Description:
The clients asked me to explore option for converting the loft space into an additional bedroom with an en-suite while taking care to capitalise on the views out of the roof.
The new staircase was logically set out to stack above the existing ground floor staircase while avoiding impacting the first-floor office, careful considerations were needed to ensure that there was adequate headroom and the flights were compliant.
Light, Storage and Views were the clients’ key drivers for when planning out the loft space. The En-suite was placed within the corner of a rear dormer above an existing ground floor bathroom to enable more direct service routing. Vertical windows in the south dormer wall and openable skylights on the northern street facing sloped roof line would provide more than enough light and allow the client to enjoy the views to the nearby park. Low-level built-in storage around the spaces edges made use of the “un-inhabitable” zones with a walk-in wardrobe / storage nook being provided near the bedroom door to provide additional storage space.
